I had always pictured students with higher educational levels to be more matured thinking, honest & responsible. I want to share to all about this episode which really had me thinking otherwise.....
I had decided to go to LJS at Tampines Mall for lunch today with my 10 year old nephew. Whilst eating peacefully, a group of JC students came. It's quite a big group, so they sat beside and behind us. Of course with big groups, comes big chatter. They were making a lot of noise.. I was rather annoyed by the noise but nevertheless minding my business, and continue eating. Now, if you have been to LJS in Tampines Mall, you'd know that the seats are so near to each other that there is extremely no privacy at all and that the people sitting next to you would know immediately what you're doing or saying (even if you whisper).
All except one (the guy sitting next to me) in that JC group ordered something to eat. That guy was a HONGKEE. How I know?? Well, because the girls in that group had talked rather loudly about spending a holiday in Hong Kong after A-levels next year, and wanting the guy to show them around + staying in his place. They were planning on where to go and whatnots.... Then some of the group's meals had been sent by the staff. In the confusion, this staff had given 1 extra meal to the NON-ORDERING JC guy. NOW, usually if people didn't order anything, they'll own up immediately (if they are honest)... Well, that HONGKEE guy was ACTUALLY acting blur. It's surprising to see that he was HESITANT in wanting to take the meal or not. I think he was aware that I had heard him saying earlier about not wanting to EAT anything to his friend, and that I had been giving him side glances, waiting for him to own up, before he finally said "NO, he didn't order" to the staff. After the staff took away the meal, I was shocked and horrified to hear one of his friends (the guy sitting BEHIND me), ACTUALLY said that the HONGKEE is stupid in owning up. In fact, he actually taught the HONGKEE to say that next time, just said YES,... Oh My Gosh!! NEXT TIME???!!
From this episode, I really began wondering... WHAT EXACTLY HAD THE HIGHER INSTITUTIONS BEEN TEACHING OUR YOUNG THESE DAYS?? HOW TO BE DISHONEST?? I shuddered at the thought.
